Farmers and rural people are very busy people. Few have time to drive long distances to attend farmer or public meetings as they once did. Even if they do have time with fuel prices ever increasing the cost of traveling is becoming problematic. Without being able to become fully informed and have our voice and opinions heard our democratic rights are being reduced. While the farming community has become more apathetic and distant from government policymaking others have filled the vacuum. Environmental groups, Fish & Game, urban business associations, ratepayer groups, and even government departments heavily influence policy that directly affects farming and the rural community. Frequently we are told by people who live in far off urban environments how we should live and behave.
